Compassion

In an online article by Greater Good Magazine, COMPASSION was defined as the “feeling that arises when you are confronted with another’s suffering and feel motivated to relieve that suffering.” It also highlights one’s desire to help in thoughts and in feelings.

Compassion is one of the strongest core values within the Hungry Minds community. Parents look after each other in times of crisis. Educators care for their learners as their own children. When one of her students, Ruth, needed help to go home, Teacher Bevz volunteered to accompany her so she could go home safely.

Ruth and her family transferred to a different municipality from Malolos, Bulacan. Her parents wanted her to stop going to Hungry Minds School because of the distance and risk of the commute for Ruth. But, because of her determination and support of her teachers, Ruth completed her elementary education in Hungry Minds School in 2011.

Today, she works for an international development agency. She is also giving back and helping the younger Hungry Minds scholars. Thank you, Ruth, for being an inspiration to the Hungry Minds community! Special thanks to Teacher Bevz and to all Hungry Minds educators for always going an extra mile for all Hungry Minds learners.
