July, 2007

Navitaire’s first class of Food for Hungry Minds kids are now students at five good Manila high schools. Congratulations! They’ll miss FHM school. But when we met some children after their first day of high school, their excitement was infectious. Parents are already praising the graduate support person who has been hired to maintain connections, “She’s working hard. She’s already gone house-to-house meeting us all.”

The notebooks being given out to high school students arrived in the big boxes of school supplies you contributed last summer. Thank you! The vitamins and supplies all went to good use.

The next class of Food for Hungry Minds children has now started school as FHM 4th graders. They look so small. Some look so timid. But this is how our confident high school students looked 3 years ago. And so the journey begins!

If you would like to celebrate the new school year, these are some needs you could meet and make a difference. Donations will be collected at the front desk of each office through August 15th.

  1. Hepatitis B vaccinations for the incoming students and staff: $100 per person (for the last class, employee contributions made hepatitis B vaccinations available to students and staff. Once contracted, there is no cure for Hepatitis B. Treatment is expensive and many do not respond well.)
  2. Vitamins – The vitamins contributed in 2006 lasted into this year, but ran out before year’s end. Places like Costco sell high quality vitamins in bulk.
  3. Favorite Supplies:
    • Washable crayola markers (You’ve seen the kids’ drawings, let’s replenish their supply!)
    • Glue Sticks
    • Good Books
